Tony Parker announced Monday that he and wife Axelle Francine are calling it quits after six years of marriage.
&#;After nine years together, during which we shared a lot of happiness, and raised two wonderful children, Axelle and I have decided to end our union,&#; Parker said in a social media statement.
&#;This separation will be guided by complete mutual respect and the preservation of well-being of our two sons. We&#;ve decided to make this public now, in order to avoid any rumors or speculation; no further comments will be made at this time in order to respect our privacy,&#; he continued.
Parker, who played 17 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, met French journalist Francine in , tying the knot three years later. They share two sons, Josh and Liam, born in and , respectively.

Tony Parker tied the knot with fiancée Axelle Francine at a ceremony in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday, a source tells PEOPLE.
The year-old San Antonio Spurs point guard and his French journalist bride – who have been dating since – welcomed their first child, Josh, in April.
The pair kicked off the festivities with a pre-wedding reception at the Cowboy Dancehall in San Antonio on Thursday, where they were joined by close friends and family, some of whom had flown in from France for the nuptials.
“It was just a little gathering,” an employee at the Cowboy Dancehall tells PEOPLE, adding that the groom sipped cocktails and danced. “He wanted to show them a Texas country good time.”
But marrying the woman of his dreams was not all Parker was celebrating this weekend.
He also signed a three-year, $ million contract extension with the Spurs.
