Named by TIME magazine as one of the “ Most Influential People in the World,” Dean Karnazes has pushed his body and mind to inconceivable limits. Among his many accomplishments, he has run 50 marathons, in all 50 US states, in 50 consecutive days. He’s run across Death Valley in the middle of summer, and he’s run a marathon to the South Pole.
On ten separate occasions he’s run a mile relay race solo, racing alongside teams of twelve. His list of competitive achievements include winning the World’s Toughest Footrace, the Badwater Ultramarathon, and winning the 4 Deserts Challenge, racing in the hottest, driest, windiest and coldest places on earth.
A NY Times bestselling author, Dean is a frequent speaker and panelist at many running and sporting events worldwide.

It’s four days before the London Marathon, an event that will see more than 40, people from all around the world attempt an incredible feat of endurance. For many this will be the only time in their lives they ever run miles.
There will be sweat, there will be tears, there will probably even be blood. In previous years people have died running the London Marathon. At the very least for most of them it will be a landmark achievement, one to tick off, if not necessarily to repeat.
The man sat opposite me however, is treating the imminent ordeal a whole lot more casually. “So you’re here to run the London Marathon…” I ask Dean Karnazes.

Dean Karnazes has been called, "The fittest man in the world." An internationally recognized endurance athlete and bestselling author, Dean has pushed his body and mind to inconceivable limits. He is a passionate adventure athlete who is as comfortable surfing the massive waves off the coast of Northern California as he is running miles through the mountains. Among his many accomplishments, he has run continuous miles, foregoing sleep for three nights. He's run across Death Valley in degree temperatures, and he's run a marathon to the South Pole in negative 40 degrees. On seven different occasions, he's run a mile relay race solo, racing alongside teams of twelve. Dean has swum across the San Francisco Bay, scaled Half Dome in Yosemite, mountain-biked for hours straight, surfed the gigantic waves off the coast of Hawaii, and is an accomplished windsurfer. Dean has won the Vermont Trail Mile Endurance Run, holds eleven Western States Mile Endurance Run Silver Buckle's, has raced and competed across the globe, and has won the world's toughest footrace, the Badwater Ultramarathon, running miles across Death Valley in the middle of summer.

Dean Karnazes does not sit still. America’s most famous ultrarunner ran up to meet me in a park near his home in Ross, a quaint and affluent town north of San Francisco, and politely declined to sit at my side on a bench.
“That’s OK, I’m good,” he said with a big grin that cut across his long, square-jawed face. Then he started doing squats and calf stretches.
