Eric f wieschaus autobiography sample
Eric Wieschaus and Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard isolated and characterized many of the genes necessary for early embryonic development in Drosophila. Ed Lewis characterized one of the first homeotic mutations.
Eric Francis Wieschaus ()
Eric Wieschaus was born in South Bend, Indiana in His family moved to Birmingham, Alabama when he was six. He grew up without any special interest in science. He spent his free time painting and sketching; his ambition was to become an artist.
This all changed when he participated in a summer program funded by the National Science Foundation. The program brought bright teens together and encouraged them to consider careers in science by sponsoring their internship in science laboratories. Wieschaus enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow students, and was given a chance to work in a neurobiology lab. He didn't believe that what he did in the lab produced much data, but he was so interested i
Genetic Control Of Embryonic Development
Lewis, Nüsslein-Volhart and Wieschaus were able to identify, localize and classify a small group of genes responsible for the control of early embryonic development of the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster. This small group of genes was shown to be responsible in determining the body plan and the formation of body segments in the embryonic fruit fly.

The Winners
Edward B. Lewis was born on the 20th of May in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. He finished his early schooling in Meyers High School. He then received his B.A. degree in Biostatistics from the University of Minnesota in and his Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology in He served the United States Army Air Force for three years as a meteorologist and oceanographer.

Born June 8th, in South Bend, Indiana; studied biology at Notre Dame University, South Bend, and Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut; , Ph.D. at Yale; , researched at the Zoological Institute of the University of Zurich; , head of a research group at the European Molecular-Biological Laboratory in Heidelberg; investigated with Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard the genetic controlling of embryonic development in systematic mutation experiments on fruit flies.
Nobel Prize for Medicine together with Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard for their discoveries concerning the genetic control of early embryonic development; many of the findings from their experiments with the Drosophila melanogaster fruit fly can be applied to hereditary deformations in humans.
