He started playing basketball and even became a TABC Class 4A Player of the Year and second-team Parade All-American. After the high school he enrolled in the University of Texas. In the he left College and entered the NBA draft.
He was drafted second overall by the Chicago Bulls in the NBA draft. He got his rights traded to the Portland Trail Blazers for their pick. After he joined to the Portland Trail Blazers he missed the first seven games of the season because of a shoulder surgery.
