Owned by Thomas Makkos, Nello allegedly hasn’t been paying the rent since , a source told Page Six. A sign from the New York City Marshal states that the “landlord has legal possession of the premises.”
Despite the payment drama, Nello may not be dead in the water. A spokesperson told the publication that they are “still negotiating” and “hope to reopen.” Eater has reached out for more information.
With dishes like a $ market-price truffle pasta, $75 lobster, and a $45 sausage and penne plate, the overpriced restaurant was a draw for celebrities like Jay-Z and Beyonce, Sting, Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker, Uma Thurman, Harrison Ford, and Jennifer Aniston, among others. A New York restaurateur claiming to be a descendant of Vlad the Impaler is set to open a £4million restaurant in London’s Mayfair.
Nello Balan plans to open a branch of Nello, his Italian restaurant on Manhattan’s Madison Avenue known for its outrageously expensive food.
Mr Balan famously does not disclose the prices of his specials at his already expensive restaurant, and recently charged an unsuspecting diner £ for a portion of truffle pasta.
